I don't know how that compares to the average.

July seems to be making up for it, 61 mm so far.

Considering we are relatively just a short distance north of you
Steve, Fair Isle is considerably wetter than Sanday for the first six
months of the year.
Fair Isle Rainfall January - June 2007 is 457.8 mm
With the Fair Isle average (1974-2000) for the first six months of
the year 391.3 mm ie so far for 2007 we are at 117%
Anyone listening might hear me on R4 'Broadcasting House' tomorrow
morning as I've been asked to comment on the summer so far in
Shetland!

This reminds me of a story going the rounds when I first joined BBC
Scotland about a production crew from London who couldn't understand why
it took so long to get to Shetland from Aberdeen by boat because
'Shetland's only a few miles off the east coast'.

Alan,

My brother-in-law, who is from our capital (a place I quite like,
actually and will be visiting again next week), once commented to me
(in reference to the coolness of Copley) that Lerwick was often the
coldest place in the UK, that's up your way isn't it?
When I put him right he said, Well it's still bloody cold wherever it
is!

Sometimes I despair.

Lesley tells me that she's read that the study of OS maps is no longer
to be in the curriculum. What the hell is going on?
