According to the US dept of Energy, there are over 40 SUV 2005 models that get over 25 mpg. How many cars get less mileage? Robert |

SUV Congratulations: Ford, for their little 36mpg hybrid Escape. That's about it for high milage SUVs. More SUV Congratulations: Chevy, for their 11mpg Avalanches, Suburbans & Tahoes. Woo woo! Ford, for their 11mpg Explorers GMC, for their 11mpg Yukons Mercury, for their 10mpg Mountaineers In real world Vegas driving conditions, these vechicles are getting milage in the single digits due to traffic and AC. That's worse than my father's racing tuned pickup truck -- pulling a 21 foot 3500 pound trailer against a headwind! While these drivers are disproportionately burdening our country by using more than double the energy of the average American, it's important to note that we shouldn't think badly of them. They're really nice people. You can tell by the little American flag stickers they keep on their window. Also: Vans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) weighing more than 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight (vehicle weight plus carrying capacity) are classified as heavy-duty vehicles. Fuel economy regulations do not apply to these vehicles, so they are not tested and fuel economy labels are not posted on their windows. As such, the Hummer Tahoe, er, H2 - and other SUVs that can't make 10mpg aren't even rated. Yay America. p.s. To be honest, I couldn't care less that these people drive a car that needs a home equity loan to pay for gas. I laugh because they drive a PoS that can't accelerate, can't corner, can't fit in a parking stall, and has the grace and aerodynamic characteristics of an elephant tossed out of a cargo plane. Nice "engineering". Nothing but oversized dumpsters with cushy chairs welded inside... p.p.s. I just *have* to throw this one in.... ![]() Can you name the truck with four wheel drive, Smells like a steak, and seats thirty five? Canyonero! Canyonero!
