Spent a fairly profitable afternoon fettling the turbo (setting the
TPS, unseizing the rear brake etc). Just as I was finishing off, with the bike up on the bench, something caught my eye - a falling drop of something from the front of the tank. A quick investigation revealed that the tank is leaking. Bollocks. So, I guess I have several options to get it sorted for Chimay 1. Try and bodge it myself (Petseal? Fibreglass? Help me...) 2. Try and get it fixed professionally 3. Try and borrow one (Sweller? Mike Buckley?) 4. Try and get one from a breakers (I'm fairly sure the non-turbo tank is identical fitting). Any other ideas? -- Champ ZX10R | GPz750turbo | GSX-R 600 racer My advice as your attorney is to buy a motorcycle To email me, neal at my domain should work. |

If you can see where it's leaking from then I'd suggest using some petseal. I've used it on the BMW I commute on with no problems. Helps if you can get it inside the tank as well as outside. On the outside chance "turbofunk" has one I'll pick it up and bring it to Warwick for you. I used a 2 pack sealant on my RD and it's lasted 4 years so far, I reckon it'll be a perfect mould of the tank long after the metal has rusted away. If you can bodge it up enough to get it and bike here en-route to Chimay it'll be a simple swap over - same on the return. I'm not leaving until early Saturday and will be in all day on the Friday. In a pinch I've used Araldite with some success on the classic Jap seam leak. Guzzis have a habit of rusting out behind the badges. Initially I used a 3M petrol resistant glue (the name of which escapes me) swilled about inside the tank which lasted 10 years until two years ago when the hole was about the size a 5p; I then used chemical metal and body filler. -- Simon |

Well, the extremely high speed blast to your place this morning definitely cheered me up :-) I didn't use the Petseal in the end, cos it said it needed 12 hours to cure, and that's considerably longer than I was prepared to wait. But the other stuff you gave me seems to have done the job. The area that was leaking had already been fixed once, with fibre glass I think; I prised it off and was greeted with 4~5 small holes (big enough to put some lockwire through). So, I cleaned it all up, mixed up the goo (which is just a variation on body filler, I think), smeared it on and waited the 10 minutes the instructions indicated. It seemed solid enough, so I put some petrol in and left it for an hour (while I replaced the KPH speedo with an MPH one I got off ebay), and it's dry.
