Why not? Cider's always been my favourite 'long' drink. It's what I
started drinking when I was 14 or 15, and I've never found anything I
like the taste of more.

Me too. I hate the taste of beer and lager but I do have to confess
that my palate never grew up (the rest of me doesn't want to either!)

I got utterly wasted on evil scrumpy [1] when I was about 18, and my
body just rejects cider out of hand as a result.

Well, cold lager ok-ish, but, as the real ale drinkers love to point
out, cold lager doesn't really taste of much.

Every time I've tasted bitter, it's done exactly what it says on the
tin - it's bitter. I don't like bitter things.

I've only ever had one pint of Guinness, and that was in Dublin. Foul
stuff.

So, cider it is.

This should be something to celebrate, surely?

That's my take on it as well...apart from sherbert lemons.

I like cider too.. and it doesn't give me hangovers after a couple of
pints like (most) beers do[1].

Mind you my favourite at the moment is the Aspalls Dry. Very nice.

Phil.

[1] Apart from some of the German beers. Especially the Weissbiers.

If you don't suffer from the supermarket snobbery that afflicts some
posters here then go to Asda. They have Erdinger Weissbier on a promo price
at the moment. Pity they don't stock the Dunkel variety I sampled last
week.

We get some of our stuff from Asda (the name brand goods cost less from
there than from Sainsburys so why pay more?) so I'll have a look next
time we go..

Check if they've also got Weihenstephaner Weißbier (can't remember if
they do or if I'm confusing them with Tesco), as that's better IMHO.

If you can get it, Franziskaner Hefe-Weißbier is the one to go for IMO -
I got rather a taste for that one in Munich t'other month.

I'm told that Sainsbury's and Majestic Wine sell it but I've not
actually seen it over here.

It's not bad; unfortunately the Dunkel seems to be impossible to get
here. Augustiner isn't bad either.

Unhealthy habit, spending some time in Munich. I know, I lived there for
18 months

IME, F H-W is not often on the Majestic list. Weissbier appears now and
then but it's usually Erdinger and currently Paulaner (dunkel and hefe
versions, both of which are palatable if not the best examples of their
form)

I can get Erdinger at the local Asda. Pity I have the taste for the
Fanziskaner.
