Bloody nice they are, and realy easy to fit when they have OEM connectors on. Only fiddly bit would be the speed sensor on the front wheel as the 916 range are cable driven. I've seen that Rhencullen do a much cheaper Avia version but it looks a bit gash and dunno how good they are: http://www.rhencullen.co.uk/avia.htm I'm just happy with my (home built) carbon fibre dash to hold the rev light in :-) http://horrible.demon.co.uk/dash.jpg -- Antony. How did you get it made - I might be > interested in summat similar for the race bike It's one of the "projects" I've been playing with in the garage, as mentioned a while back[1]. Basically it's wet lay carbon fibre cured into a flat sheet. The template for the dash was made up in cardboard then transferred to the cf, cutting it to shape before finishing. Very, very easy to do - it was only 3 layers thick - and you can cut it with just about anything - scissors, dremel, hacksaw, etc. Sanding it is really easy too, a bit like balsa wood, but beware of the dust. About 4 hours work, not including cure time. I started with this as it's a flat sheet and hence very easy to do. If you're just doing flat sheets, and maybe box-like structures (ie, make up panels then resin them together with some extra carbon to strengthen) then you don't need any moulds or the like. It seems to let through all the spam but genuine emails get bounced! > Could you either > a) make me an instrument mount or > b) tell me how to do it? I'm sure I could make you one, but not having the bike to work against may be a problem. If you can supply some kind of drawing with dimensions then I should be able to work to that. Have a go at making a template out of cardboard as it's great for altering on the fly. Then draw it out and email it over - I'll drop you my "real" email address in the mean time. Whatever way, it shouldn't cost much as carbon fibre cloth is about 15 quid per metre square. Kevlar is cheaper but I suspect cf would be better here. -- Antony. Far Up! Far Out! Far More! Put your wet-lay onto thin polythene sheet as this makes it easy to handle and peels off when the lot is cured. The stuff used for cheap "double glazing" is ideal. 2. Put a lot of resin onto the polythene first to act as your flow (top) coat. Don't make the first layer too wet though, otherwise you end up with uneven thickness in the individual layers. 3. Buy a roller - 49p from Wilkinson for a wallpaper edge roller. Much easier than making your own! 4. Depending on what (shapes) you are making, make your layers of carbon then let it start to cure before moulding it. That way it stays in shape much easier than flopping about. 5. Wear gloves and a proper filtered mask, not just a dust shield. HTH, -- Antony. Far Up! Far Out! Far More!
