There are ways round this you know. I've been k-lined numerous times by
a major ISP for flooding their IRC server, but it never stopped me going
back and doing it some more ;-)

There are such things as proxies, you know.

Not what I am pointing out, but a nice idea.

I'm not interested in doing that sort of thing anyway, even if I could do

You missed the point. The point is, that even if you have a fixed IP,
you can still gain access to the server. What you choose to do after
that is of course a matter for your own conscience.
