Ah, that's a good point - I would expect that I'll get a passport that's valid for exactly 10 years. Supposedly you can get an express passport (only a few days turnaround) in Germany but I haven't found out if the embassy in London can do that also. >>I doubt that the German bureaucracy is geared up for that... > >The brits in CH manage it, I can't see why the krauts can't. Because they don't have a Dienstanweisung for it. Actually, according to the US embassy in Germany, as a German citizen my passport only needs to be valid for the duration of the stay and not for another six months after that. *Phew*. Ta. I've actually got the form and as far as I can remember it makes no mention of biometrics. That said, it's my experience that no matter how long the queue is to get through passport control, you *still* have to wait for your luggage on the other side. I'll try to - the last time they fobbed me off with a temporary passport that wasn't valid long enough to get into the US, and the regular one. And the temporary one isn't exactly cheap. It helped that we were staying no-where near the main nightclub area (right on the Beach, as it happens), and the only "obviously drunk in the morning" people we saw were a bunch of stripped-to-the-waste frenchmen with "Allez les Bleus" written on their chests in paint. -- d. |
