I don't. Not to make me a better/worse driver. Purely for comfort. I tried
it a few times, and just didnt feel comfortable, therefore not in control. I
tend to lead slightly with my rear brake anyway...possibly as a result of
the rest of my style. But the sequence for someone pulling out on me or
something would be..See thing starting to pull out ease on back brake at the
same time time as flicking onto front brake (which is really quick) and then
standard braking...probably just slamming both on full whack (got ABS on my
bike....never needed it though). If i can see something about to happen, i
might hover over my brakes, but not in general. I tend to be able to read
the situation ahead of time. (try riding round town without using brakes
except to get from 5mph to 0mph - its fairly easy if you drive sensibly)

If you want to get anywhere in London you have to ride like Tron. Lots of
sharpish ducks and dives to take advantage of slow drivers' reflexes let
alone their frustration-led lane changing, smooth doesn't really come into
it IME. Don't even talk about scooter riders...

I saw what must be London's fattest cop on a bike recently. In fact he's
often around this area. Don't they have some kind of yearly fitness test for
these guys? Seriously, this guy would have hidden SD with Big Tony as
pillion.

I live in edinburgh, where the traffic isnt quite as bad. I see so many
people using their brakes for no reason other than bad driving. (ie,
straight road, nothing much happening...obviously decide that they are going
to fast....or they come up to a car in front going slower than it is, and
bang..on with the brakes)...its turning into a pet hate of mine. Almost as
much as people not indicating. Simple bad/dangerous driving that will never
get punished.

This is obviously a silly question, but if they encounter a car in front
of them, and _don't_ brake ... erm ... what's likely to happen ?

Because of their bad driving, they will crash. I am talking about a vehicle
ahead that is already there. If something pulls out on you then thats
another issue. But if you go racing up to somebody then have to break to
avoid hitting them then that is bad driving. Braking is merely the
indication of an earlier wrongdoing. When I approach something going slower,
i ease off the throttle, and let the engine help slow me down, so the whole
process is smooth. A lot of queues on motorways etc that seem to have no
source are often caused by people braking for no reason other than they were
driving badly in the first place and were then forced to use the brakes...or
simply used the brakes needlessly.

Ah, OK.

Oh, and it's 'brake'.

d'oh! Since using computers/mobile phones, my spelling has got fairly bad. I
type what comes into my mind as it sounds, and never read over it, so a lot
of the time, i churn out utter piss. (doesnt look too good on CVs...as i
have found in the past).
