In absolute terms - not the terms you keep trying to throw in: ultimate sports category, 100k + category - an SL55AMG corners well. End of story. Apart from the braking into corners, and the accelerating out of them, the actual cornering bit is determined by the coefficient of friction between rubber and tarmac. End of story. Not really - otherwise you'd have skinny tyres and undamped soft or non existant suspention on fast cars. > End of story. The round window said it was Sun, 18 Apr 2004 13:09:39 +0300,so Ben

I don't. Where do you base this on? My experience, is that it didn't corner well. On a track, it wasn't that impressive. > >In absolute terms - not the terms you keep trying to throw in: >ultimate sports category, 100k + category - an SL55AMG corners well. I've already pointed you to a review, that said the SL55 handles poorly, I think based on experience, it handled poorly. What, exactly, leads you to think, that it handles well? -- Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas... R1150GS..just like it's owner, big, ugly but fun! IBW #36 APOSTLE#14 |

Fair enough, you're the exception to the rule then. Without making the argument circular, and just out of curiosity, what had you driven, say the month before, or the month after, that you used by way of comparison? I'd had a go in a 355, and then a 360 back to back, I was quite amazed at the leap forward the 360 was in driving terms, and after that the SL55, felt quite sloppy, and showed it's weight. Later that day, having a go in an Aston, the GT version, led me to hold that thought; as I can't be arsed to google for it, but I think the Astons heavier than the merc. snip >>What, exactly, leads you to think, that it handles well? > >See above. -- Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas... I drive exotica so frequently that I barely pay it attention. Almost all my circle of friends at home are in the motor trade or are serious car nuts. One worked for Ferrari, through whom I got to drive all but one of the Ferraris I've drive. Others do various things in various areas of the trade, and are very free with their keys. A member of the family is CEO of an investment bank; you may be able to identify his wheels from earlier in the thread. A good mate is an oil broker with a penchant for M-cars. Another used to race single-seaters of some sort and now gets his kicks on the roads in a De Tomaso Pantera. Another is a eurobonds broker with a porsche, a ferrari and an RS500. Another is editor of Redline magazine. I spent some university vacations as a chauffeur for the Royal Family of Dubai. -- Ben Blaney |
