If its windows 2000 or XP goto start run type diskmgmt.msc click OK and see if its in there but needing partitioning and formatting (in the grey area in the bottom where it says disk 1 etc right click to see the options) If its win 98 etc try Start Run type command click OK in the command window type fdisk and see if your drive shows up there.
