Getting them off isn't such a problem, it's getting them back on
that's tough, especially when the rubbers are 25 years old.

The trick we used to use was to get a bucket of *really* hot water,
and soak the rubbers in there before refitting. In fact, leave them
all in there, and fish them out one at a time as you need to get them
back on.
