The main problem in the past in this country was that they were classified as agricultural vehicles, so although you could register them, you couldn't get insurance for private use. This has recently changed, thanks to one of those EC standardisation laws, so you can now buy certain models for private use. > and are they any good? The 4wd ones are great for trail riding, which is where the real benefit of the law change will be felt. The more race oriented 2wds aren't as good due to the naff ground clearance, but still good fun on somewhere like Salisbury Plain. Something like a Yamaha 660 Raptor would be obscenely good fun on wet roundabouts! Most of them are still off-road based, but there is a BMW engined 'sport' quad available. ISTR it's hideously expensive though. -- Preston. http://www.muddystuff.co.uk Off-road motorcycle classifieds '02 MV Senna '96 Tiger '00 XR400 '78 Fantic 250 |

I rode one all last summer spraying kerbs & pavements for weeds. [1] Knobbly tyres & soft suspension don't really cut it on tarmac. But with a full tank of Round-Up on the back the wheelies make it all worth while! [1] http://sorby.servebeer.com/Rob-spraying1x.jpg -- Sorby |
