Default Pavement Parking

Ok, so this subject has probably been done to death, but what are the
rules for parking on the pavement. I have just picket up a ticket for
a nifty for parking on the pavement, curtesy of Westminster council.
I parked there in the niave belief that it was a sensible thing to do
from all views, ( ok I know) . Do I have a chance of getting away with
it ????

No harm in trying. Email them and think of an excuse. If you have to pay,
pay.

as a follow on question, does anyone know if there is any limitation about where on the bike they can stick the ticket?
i.e only to the windscreen or headlight?

I think they usually mange to get all of the ticket to display on the
screen. Unlike your post, unfortunately.

Just in case I ever find myself driving through Switzerland, what's the
wrong way around to park? I mean is there a general rule of is it at
the whim of the car park at hand?

I parked in-a-legal-space-but-wrong-way-round in Brussels. As I was
walking away, a friendly local warned me that I'd get a fine if the
authorities saw my car in that position.

(Does that mean I'm Belgian?)

This was on the street, where you (apparently) must park in the
direction of traffic flow.

Some off-street parking does also have rules thoug, but they'll
generally have signs up. The one that pisses me off is where you're
next to the road, but perpendicular to it, and the signs tell you you
must park with 'Auspuff gegen der Strasse' (exhaust outwards). I hate
parking that way, as it means I have to reverse out into the street,
but when in Rome...

I did this at Southgate house in Stevenage. IIRC there's some obscure
by-law about the pavement being part of the building within the shadow
it cast at 12 noon mid summer. It's enough to park a bike though.

Hmmm.

What's the weather going to be like out there by the way?

Do I just need to pack T-shirts, or does it get cool in the evenings?

Are you sure you were parked on the pavement and not private land
adjacent to it? If private land this provides a get out. They won't
admit you are allowed to park there but persist and they are likely to
withdraw the ticket. I've had two tickets withdrawn by Westminster and a
third currently being appealed against.

Hmm. I got stuffed here, because although I was off the pavement and
into the private ground area, the private ground was owned by
westminster council.

As far as their right to ticket you is concerned it should not matter.
If your ticket says code 622 then it has to be a pavement even if they
own it. It's worth fighting as you've nothing to lose.
