Wotcha
I picked this up in the local ePress and thought you would be interested: http://www.edp24.co.uk/content/News/...ar+2004+06%3A1 0&tbrand=EDPOnline&tCategory=NEWS&category=News&br and=EDPOnline&itemid=NO ED05+Mar+2004+20%3A10%3A27%3A587 Martin Bell is trying to overturn the 'cartel' the major parties instigated to 'protect' their interests. It was in the days before the: 'your independent representative MEP', that I was approached. What I find a tad dejavue was the first vote for MEPs was in the late 70s while I was in Germany working at the manned space flight centre ERNO in Bremen. The whole bit on the German TV and in the papers was this was a vote for representatives independent of traditional political parties. If you knew a person who you felt would represent your 'area' well, he or she should be proposed. We had a charismatic young guy in ERNO, Helmut Kleinerwillinghoffer (sp?) who was just that and most of ERNO was behind him. I helped him by running a lot of his campaign on the company main frame ( on the quiet ). He was eventually defeated by the representative of one of the big parties. The defeat was not on his abilities but Helmut was accused, indirectly, in the papers and TV of being a habitual drunk, a womaniser, that he had shady dealings in the past and only just escaped being sent to jail, he didn't really have a degree etc. None of this was true but was a very accurate description of the big party's rep that won. I guess they based their attack on "if we say it first they can't accuse us of it". I wonder what will be said about Martin Bell? -- Best regards Mick Whittingham |
