Ross is doing a weeks work experience at a local power
station. Yesterday he was in 'Materials Handling' i.e. unloading coal. Apparently, on full chat, the station consumes 1/2 a trainload of coal an hour. Most of this coal comes from the docks - imported. But *some* comes from 'Up North Somewhere' Apparently this colliery has to dispose of the furnace-grade stuff, and the most economic way to do so is to *pay the power station to burn it* Now to me, and I accept I am probably being a bit simplistic here, but I would have thought that, rather than *pay* the power station to 'dispose' of it, they could possibly try to *sell* it to the power station at a competitive price? - even if it was at a loss, it would still, surely, be cheaper than *paying* them to burn it? -- Rob_P UKRM(at)indqualtec.co.uk uppercase(d) BBIWYMC#1 BOG#11? OK, So the real question is what could UKRM profitably do with half a
train load of coal a day, right? Nidge (at work) |
