Camping. What dates are the actual races? And what's it like for getting a decent hotel booking during this period? Only Jude would quite like to go to the island again, as that's where her family's from, and I've never been, so we might think about doing a trip that combines some of the MGP period with a few days when the roads and everything would all be open. Seems like we could get there from Basel in about three hours, via LCY, so it could be doable. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Yes, unless there's bad weather on the Friday, which will push racing onto the Saturday. Road closures are less of an issue during practice week, being closed from 6pm to around 8:30 each evening. The weekend betweeen practice and race week is the bank holiday, tho I guess that makes little difference to you overseas visitors. >>>And what's it like for getting a >>>decent hotel booking during this period? >> >>Do-able, but it'll be high season prices. > >Any recommendations? I've only ever stayed with mates, so can't recommend anywhere. In IoM terms, the airport isn't actually that close to Douglas, but Douglas is the main hub, as you say. I'll be staying in Ramsey, and Andy Bonwick, Black Mike, etc will be up there or nearby. I've heard good-ish things about the Grand Island Hotel in Ramsey url:http://www.gov.im/tourism/travel/acc...ility=&class=& but otherwise it's probably worth contacting the tourist board. -- Champ I don't know, but I been told, you never slow down, you never get old ZX10R | GPz750turbo | GSX-R600 (race) neal at champ dot org dot uk |

That's where half the group stopped in 2002. The hotel was basic, don't expect anything special there. Port Erin itself is quiet and as far as redeeming features go it has one of the nicest beaches on the island, and an excelent pub that does a good selection of real ales (unlike most pubs on the islans where you'll get Okells, and like it.) as you say it's a fair drive away from where most things happen. |

So the Grand Island in Ramsey is full, yes? That's a shame. While Port Erin is at the exact opposite end of the Island, remember that it's only 30 miles long. In some ways it's nice to be down there, because even in TT week it's not much affected by the racing, and is miles from any road closures, so Jude might prefer that.
