Default Insurance..... wtf!?

My insurance is up for renewal this month, so I'm in the middle of doing
the usual quotes:

VFR by itself - fully comp - £146

Add the Hongdou - £315

WTF is that about then?

The Hongdoh is a scrote magnet, like all off-road bikes.

Seriously considering getting shot of it if it's going to put a 100%
loading on my premiums. It's just not worth keeping for the amount of
use it gets.

Did you try getting a quote for it on its own? That should tell you if
it's the culprit. I'm pretty sure it is, though.

Strange, though, considering my Honda SL125, also a dirt bike (albeit 30
years older) didn't cost me anything to add to my classic policy.

When I tried to add the KLE to my GPZ insurance with Devitts the premium
would have jumped from about £80 to over £200 TPF&T.

They class it as an off-roader (ha ha). My argument that I wanted it simply
to negotiate the pot-holes and speed bumps on roads around Bedfordshire and
there was as much chance of me taking it off road as there was of me being
the next man on the moon held no sway.

And as the sole modern bike that I was running last year, my DR-Z400
wasn't on my classic policy but only cost me £90.

The insurance industry make the rules and they say it can only be
applied to one policy at a time.

I have often wondered if the same insurer might split an NCB between 2
policies though. putting a couple of years onto one and the remainder
of the years onto another..

Equity Red Star consistently quote me exactly £9999.00 which is
officially the highest quote I've ever had (surpassing the £8k I was
quoted on a Monster 900 about 7 years ago, though that was the _only_
quote I was able to get at the time.)
