I am bowled over by the success of Kenan Sofuoglu, the young Turkish
rider who has taken the World Supersport series by storm, and is already this year's world champion. Unlike most m'cycle racers (and I like 'em all by the way), this young chap is completely natural, even shy, and not at all a joker or show-off or whiner or ego. Today it made me think of Britain's Lewis Hamilton; although he is in a much bigger circus with enormous pressures and publicity, Hamilton seems to be a very calm and rooted person. The coincidence that both of these chaps are not white, in sports which are almost 100% "anglo- saxon" in culture and tradition, is very striking. I think it could be a sign of better things to come in the world. |

Seemed to be, up until Saturday's little contretemps. Alonso, who up till now hasn't shown the slightest trace of overwhelming ego, was suddenly accused of blatantly blocking his team-mate in a move worthy of the Great St Michael at his worst. Very odd. Hamilton needs to be watched for prima-donna tendencies, imo. -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the river cleaned out in a day. |
