Default Help, Tax Question.

Off to pick up the ZZR 1100 tomorrow, It's insured, fully MOT'd, but
not taxed, the bloke who I'm buying it from has let his insurance lapse
(had to give up ring cos' of some hand problem i cant spell) I( have
just tried to do it online & it says no insurance is available, yet I
insured it yesterday (for a stunning £99!)

I don't really want to ride it home with no tax. I won't have the
feckin insurance cover note until probably Thursday due to Bennetts
taking ages to get the cover notes out.

Is it likely my insurance is not on the computer or what?

Any ideas folks?

Yes. Takes a while for the insurance company data to be assimilated by DVLA

a) Try the online tax thing tomorrow morning. The database may refresh
overnight.

b) In future, use a less pikey insurance company. Ebike let you print off
an insurance certificate that is accepted at a post office counter.

c) Do you have a friendly MOT station that will tell the rozzers that you
have "booked" the bike in for an MOT?

"Please note that motorists may not be able to use EVL if they have
recently changed their name and or address, changed their insurance
company or any details of their vehicle. There may also be problems
verifying insurance cover if the tax and insurance are both due at the
same time."

You don't need the cover note to be insured, that is just the paperwork
exercise...

I the bike has not been SORNED I would just ride it back, how many times
have you had the tax checked on your bike? The only time I've been checked
is just before getting on the ferry to PAHND island and never as part of a
pull.

Does that work on bikes? Seems to be aimed at cars due to the front

Always a standard dodge in the good old days. Find any MoT station [1]
just beyond your home in relation to purchase location. Book test [2].
Collect bike and ride home. Phone MoT station and say bike blew up when
started to ride to there and cancel test.

When I book mine in the MoT has often expired. Doesn't sound as if the
test is logged or checked on a computer or such so that they might say
"oi- come off it that was already done yesterday".

The inability to be certain of clearing the insurance hurdle if stopped
might be trickier. Ask Champ about the Kent Constabulary matter.

[1] NOT the one it was tested at already.
[2] Could be tricky getting an appointment for tomorrow.

Bad form. I was referring the bloke at the MoT station. The plod
stopping you might well have already checked the reg. number and found a
new MoT, and therefore get very arsy about your MoT booking explanation.

Unless that is there is lag on that database. Does it come up as MoT'd
if you check here?

The fact that you continually refer to the police as "pigs" and "the
filth" speaks volumes for your attitude when you do get stopped.

Try growing up a bit (no, really), drop the chip on your shoulder and
speak to them as human beings. You may find out that one or two of them
are.

Slang nigel, I know loads of Police, it makes me look harder on here if
I use slang.

I know exactly how to deal with the Police as i am a law abiding
citizen, in fact my next door neighbour but two is in the CID & a very
good mate is an inspector. I would never use those terms in real life.
But, you did know that already.
TBH, you really do have the wrong impression of me, given that it is my
fault, I accept your criticism without question.

You are not being pedantic, just a TC.

Let's imagine a scenario where a vehicle was SORNed for a while. Both tax &
MOT have expired. How are you going to tax the bike to go to the MOT
station unless the exemption applies?

"It might be helpful if I explain that there is an exemption from
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) under Part 2, Section 22 of the Vehicle Excise
and Registration Act (VERA) 1994 for a vehicle to travel to and from a
testing station for the purpose of a pre-arranged MOT test. This
exemption is only afforded whilst a vehicle is in use for the purpose of
testing, and does not apply if it is merely kept on the road."

http://www.v8register.net/subpages/sorn3.htm

I rode the Tart to and from an MoT test without Tax or even a
registration number to tax it by. Likewise its MSVA test.

As it is not possible to tax an un-MOT-ed vehicle, how else would you
get it to the MOT station...

"You may drive the vehicle without a current Vehicle Excise Licence to
and from a Vehicle Testing Station for the purpose of obtaining an MoT
Certificate provided you go by the most direct route, the Test
appointment has been booked and there is insurance cover for the vehicle
as required by the Road Traffic Acts. If the vehicle subsequently fails
the test it can be driven from the Testing Station to a place of repair
provided the above requirements are again fulfilled."

Most direct route: from seller's house to your favoured MOT testing station.
Place of repair: your garage.

There's your problem, right there. You'll never get along here[1].

I really don't understand it either - I never bothered taxing my 7R.

The bit that starts with the 'o' and ends with the 'e'. Along with most

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Pete Fisher

You could MoT the same vehicle every day of the year, if it took your
fancy. Nothing illegal in it.
An MoT is just a test of the vehicle at the time it's presented and
nothing on it says it's a guarantee of future roadworthiness, so a
particulary fussy owner may wish to get his vehicle tested more often,

Marigolds don't perish when handling axle grease your assertion is the
right one.

I reckon we'll be able to get a couple of stoats up his arse by the time
we've finished and that's without the aid of any glass tubes or such.

I was working on a couple of male mink, unless you can lay your hands
on a couple of wolverines - or badgers, of course.
