Default French Run - posted on behalf of TOG

As predicted there is a small number of spare spaces now available for
the Spring French Run.

Those on the waiting list plus any others wishing to join the happy
throng please E Mail TOG at his usual E Mail address [1] to confirm
their interest in going.

There will be two extra places available from us too (( What with the
purchase of the new R1, and other somewhat expensive things planned, it
means that we are now without the funds allocated for the French Run (

TOG isn't reading here at the moment, I'd suggest you e-mail him so he
knows and can sort things out with the hotel.

It's not that expensive you know, average just over 100 notes per head.
Never understood how those who can claim to afford new bikes barely seem
able to afford a tank of fuel for it.

Because it's £100 each, plus whatever you spend on beer and food, plus
petrol. The £200 'cheap' weekend away, soon becomes £500. Especially as
they'd be taking 2 bikes.

Damn I must be doing something wrong as the last trip didn't cost me
anywhere near £250.

And that's with a single room.

£500 indeed.

From up north they'll fill up 3 or 4 times just getting to the ferry
port.

2 bikes x 4 fuel stops x £10 = £80
x2 trips.. = £160

Fuel in france... maybe another £40 each... so that's £200 already..

+ £100 each to cover the hotel, meals, etc..

That's now £400...

And I guess there would be a night in a UK hotel to add to the list as
getting to Dover would be a day's trip in itself.

£500 ain't far off.

Even a Bandit will do 100 miles on a tenner. If you're 400 miles from
Dover, you're in Glasgow. I reckon 50 quid both ways, per bike

For two earners.

Tell you what, let's do the sums for 20 people - that'll make it look
really expensive.

Nope, I own a business thats only just beginning to start paying me. I've
not even earnt enough to pay tax this financial year.

We get around 100 miles to a tank, 110 if we're just cruising. And they
both take around £12 to fill up. More if stopping on the motorway.

See above, only one earner.

Thats why I'm not picking up the new bike until April, with the finance
payments not starting until mid May, which I can pay using cashback on
credit card until I start getting paid at the end of May/June. By which
time we may be selling the older R1 anyway.
And there are other personal expenses that were unforseen.

Not really. If you look at all the costs, and Pauls crash helmet is prety
much shagged and I'd feel happier spending a couple of hundred on a new one.
Which also means, more epxense but a possible life-saving one.....or a
holiday.

We're 165 miles north of MK, we're in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Which is why we've had to pull out - all the up-front expenses of moving
house have left us looking a bit broke until we actually complete the
move. Not to mention all the expenses I shell out each week and have to
claim back later.

I was taking issue with SteveH's comment that these trips turn into £500
getaways.

Yeah, but you're a girlie lightweight with the beer, and only have to
pay for your own trip.

Last one cost me over £100 in fuel, another £50 / night in drinks (at
least, I lost count), plus £50-ish in food.

So, that's £200 for the trip, £100 for petrol, £150 for drinks and £50
for food.

So, that's about £500 for the 2 of us.
