Default First trip to France

I'm planning my first ever jaunt to France in a couple of weeks. I have been
reading my insurance and I cant work out if I'm insured or not, does anybody
have any ideas?

Also, when my bikes on a ferry do I need to take something to tie it down with?

Thanks

AFAIK it's a legal requirement that your UK insurance provides the
minimum level of cover required in other EU countries and probably
Switzerland. You should find a clause to that effect if you stare at
the small print long and hard enough. If not, call your inswearance.

Probably not, but if your booking far enough in advance then I'd
consider using the tunnel - far more convenient.

Ask your insurance company?

TPO is a minimum.

>Also, when my bikes on a ferry do I need to take something to tie it down with?

Take summat anyway, unless you want a dirty oily rope wrapped around
your bike. Use something like a glove or other sort of padding type
stuff to protect any exposed bodywork.

Bad form, etc, but I meant that 'TPO is a minimum policy given out on
all UK insurance policies for those travelling abroad'

IIRC.

Errr, phone your insurance company? Getting some breakdown cover is a
good idea as well.

If you're lucky, they'll have some manky old rope you can use

P & O Stenna out of Dover use a wide strap with a pad that goes accross your
seat

Would recommend you use Side stand only and not centre stand (see prev post
about being pulled forward)

The strap is attached to a ratchet that pulls the bike down upon its
suspension and the side stand
(it wont go nowhere when fixed properly)

But!" beware riding onto the ferry, the metal floor is damn slippery

Cheers

Have a great time

Everyone says that, but so far on the three trips I've taken on P&O out of
dover they've had used
a strap and (last time) a cushion thing to stop the seat getting damaged and
I've had no problems.

But that's me.

I do agree with the post commenting on the metal deck being a tad slippy
though.

I used their rope and sidestand on the way there without any problems
(see below)

However, I did drop my bike after taking it off the stand at the other
end - All in front of about 15 other bikers ;-)
