Default Ebay question

Hi,

I am a newbie using Ebay so would be grateful if anyone would comment
whether the following is normal:

I am interested in an item on ebay that doesn't seem to have a reserve
price. It had a low first bid (99p) which was the winning bid for a
few days. Suddenly someone put a high next bid (£10.01). However if I
bid I just enter the maximum price and it only increments the actual
bid by a small amount.

My question is: Why/how would someone bid up by this much in one go?

Cheers,
M

The first bidder had his maximum of just under a tenner , but where he is
the only bidder then the current bid will be the start price.

Bidder two comes along and sticks in a maximum of say 15 quid. His current
bid will jump up to the minimum needed to beat the previous high bidder , in
this case just over a tenner.

Sounds like "purest green" that can be moulded and fashioned into
jewellery.

It was only a nugget - barely enough for a PA.
