Default Ducati 1098

There's something dragging me kicking & screaming towards one. Just
got back from the great Yorkshire Bike show & I just can't them out of
my head.

Go on then, what are Ducatis really like to live with?

Can i do it justice though? I'm no racer, the sound of the engine is
awesome. I'll book a test ride once i get back from Spain.

The one at the bike show had been given some *serious* hammer given the
state of the rear tyre!

What are they like to insure?

I can't get over how nice they look & sound, what about reliability?

Treat a Duke like a Fireblade and it will probably let you down.
They're not inherently unreliable but they are less robust than a
Japanese sports bike and dealer servicing is pricey.

Same ways any bike can let you down, just the Duke will be much less
tolerant of any neglect. They are not generally speaking "ride &
forget" bikes in the way that Fireblades etc are.

The only thing i'm concerned about is my size, I'm six foot three with

Someone a few doors down has one - so this is more, what they're like to
live near. They sound awesome, and I've never seen him tinkering with it.
He does wash and polish it a lot though, and has matching leathers and lid,
so it's possible it doesn't do many miles. And I've never seen it out in
anything but blazing sun. But again, it sounds and indeed looks awesome.

Some guy that he rides with has an Aprilia RSV Mille-R though, and that,
IMHO looks and sounds even better...

Was chatting with a Kwak dealer in Guildford on Friday
he has a yellow 748 for sale, I suggested they were a pain to run, he
replied with its just the belts, so long as you look after these, they are
very much the same as any other bike to look after.
He commented that they have quite a few Duke's through the shop and do the
belts on them all, so he finds it quite
easy now, they have got used to it.
Dunno if any of this is relevent to the 1098 re belts?
