with up to 2K, you ought to get summat reasonable. as a nice all-rounder,
you can do a lot worse than the VFR750F, - a mate of mine has one, it's
comfy, fast (enough - about 140 indicated, given enough road and absence of
dibbles), reliable, decent enough weather protection etc. Should pick an
arf-decent one for 2K. No direct experience of much else in that sort of
size, but I gather the RF900 was reckoned to be a very decent, under-rated
bike. Always rather fancied a Yam XJ900 (pre-diversion), although I saw a
900 divvie a bit back and that looked quite nice, too.

Mind, I reckon it's boring, but then mine takes a bit more rider input to go
fast.

ditto, and I find the above-mentioned viffer comfy.
