Nice one.... After all the stick you seem to get on here you weren't
beginning to doubt your abilities? :-)

Am I missing something here? Why do you have to wait for the V5 to MOT it?
I thought you could tax it with the green bit.

Well, I do occasionally doubt my ability to buy a decent vehicle. While
I'm not exactly in the WUN league of mechanical ability, I do actually
know quite well what I can fix and what I can't...

Only during the first two months of ownership, and I've had it longer
than that. I just hadn't realised that there was something missing until
a few days ago.

.... for two months after you bought it. And I've owned it considerably
longer.

AFAIK the local place (only bike MOT place in town) wants to see the
V5. Plus, I can't tax it without one, either.

They _like_ to see the V5, but its not a legal requirement.

Well, I've just come off the phone to an unusually helpful member of the DVLA
staff (thanks!) - it appears that the PO somehow forgot to send in the V5 or
RM lost it, as they have no record of a change of keeper.

However she pointed out that if I MOT'd the bike and took the form, the
little green strip plus the usual proof of address and some id to my local
VRO, I could tax it and fix up the change of keeper at the same time, without
having to wait for a re-issued V5. Result.

Now all I need is the time to trundle to the VRO in Maidstone...
