Default More Cibie headlights

5-3/4 inch Cibie in a cheapo Bates style shell. 1st run down some back
roads this evening. "Oh Yes" most illuminating. I shall buy the second
one now. Cheap solution, about £50 all in per side. Just need to run
some heavy duty wire up and splice in a relay.

What are regarded as the best focussed 60/55W H4 bulbs available now?

It is still tempting to add a couple of small H2 spots under the main
units for truly horrible wet dark journeys. Would a Bandit genny cope
with 240 watts of high beam?? IIRC the output is around 400w total but
not sure.

Osram Silverstar or Philips Vision Plus. Accept *no* alternatives.

It's not the alternator's output that matters unless you leave them on for
hours. The battery will deliver enough current; it will just lose 'charge'
the longer you leave them on. Don't forget your coils (especially) and other
lights use a fair bit of current too.

Well my question was whether the alternator is beefy enough to feed them
full time as well as all the other electronics plus battery charging

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Hog" <hogSPAM@freenetCHIPS.co.uk>
saying something like:

Philips Silver Star or somesuch. I've got a pair of them in and they
really do put out extra light for the wattage, unlike the blue-tinted
bollocks. I'd say they are on a par with the 100/80s I've got in the
van.

I've found the Philips "Vision Plus" to be good. Other makers are also
selling bulbs with similar claims. I don't know whether the VP are indeed
50% brighter (than what?) but they make a nice light.

They actually are indeed 50% brighter than the standard halogens they
replace.

Wot 'e said. I used to use 100/80W bulbs until I melted the RF's
headlight plug. I got more and better focused light from a 60/55
Osram Silverstar. Elly was astonished at the difference in light
output when I slipped a couple of Silverstars into her Clio.

Stay well away from anything with a 'blue tint'.

well no, I love the Audi Xenons, and hate getting back into the missus's

Yup, same on the audi, but you can imagine the roads over here. Local
roads are littered with speed bumps and drempels, major roads whilst not
hilly, are far from flat with ripples and crests all over the shop.

There is certainly a case for compulsory eye testing to retain your
licence after the age of 50 rather than 70. To detect the particular
problem of 'dazzle' would, however, need something a bit more
sophisticated than the 'read a number plate' spot tests that have been
proposed (e.g. by West Mercia Police).

Try www.consumabulbs.com

They have a selection of brighter lamps, but it seems the Silverstar are the
best option.
