I'm after a SOB, thinking of a 250 single cylinder, something that can be
left outside without worrying about its condition, when I saw locally a Indian Enfield,350cc. Described at having a noisy top end, but this one looks like it'll be selling for less than £500, so £100 on new head parts wouldnt be too much of an hassle. Mechanical repairs are no problem, it looks reasonable condition - are these ok for a general runabout, all weather local bike? Anything else to look out for on them? Thanks Alan. -- To reply by e-mail, change the ' + ' to 'plus'. |

Try and find a half decent Honda CB250RS. They out-perform the Enfield in every repect and are a damn sight more reliable. My old one is currently sitting there with about 195,000 abused miles on the clock. You just need to do very frequent oil changes to keep the top end from wearing out. As they takle a pissy amount of oil it's not an expensive undertaking. Ebay sometimes throws up a bargain if you look. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA- CB250RS_W0QQitemZ4618618126QQcategoryZ9806QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-CB250-RS-CB250RS-1980 _W0QQitemZ8045044134QQcategoryZ10460QQrdZ1QQcmdZVi ewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-CB250- RS_W0QQitemZ4620912288QQcategoryZ9806QQrdZ1QQcmdZV iewItem The quite clean and tidy black one looks interesting cos parts are easy to come by. -- Lozzo GSX-R1000 K1 GSF600(S)W GPZ500S E1 (FS: 350 quid and it's yours) |

The electrics are a bit iffy. And the drum-braked ones are s underbraked you wouldn't believe it. They're nice to ride up to about 55, and horrible above that. Get a Suzuki GN250 - faster, just as easy on fuel, cheaper to buy, charming bike, modern lights and brakes..... -- Trophy 1200 750SS CB400F CD250 x2 GAGARPHOF#30 GHPOTHUF#1 BOTAFOT#60 ANORAK#06 YTC#3 BOF#30 WUSS#5 The bells, the bells..... |

Be prepared to change the original Indian main bearings after about 10 or 12 years ![]() > Anything else to look out for on them? Loads of silly little things - but non of 'em important enough to really worry about. http://home.freeuk.net/thewolf/bullet.htm Read that - it should put you off owning one for ever. -- -- ^..^ Lone Wolf www.moonshiners.org.uk |

Rotax = left foot kick. Left foot kick is all well and good if you have an enormous flywheel to carry the momentum, sadly, Rotax engines have next to no flywheel effect at all. I really used to like those Rotax motors until I worked on a few. Very nice when running, but some very weak design in the electric start department. Still - each to their own. -- -- ^..^ Lone Wolf www.moonshiners.org.uk |
