The CX does not count as a true classic. Not yet, maybe never. The Superdream, certainly never. An abortion from start to finish. Nonetheless, the CX is a rather interesting and unusual machine in it's own right, and certainly it comes under *something* for that alone. It's also strangely rewarding to ride in an agricultural kind of way, and the delivery of power from the motor does has it's own particular charm. I can certainly see why couriers used to like 'em. It'll sit at a comfortable 80 on the motorway from arseholes to breakfast time if need be, returning 50Mpg+ for your efforts, pull you around town in 5th gear comfortably from 25Mph upwards and last of all no chain maintenance to worry about. -- Loz H ~ Hairy, Ugly and Fat ~ CB550F CB200 CX500 |

You could get a really nice 400 Four for that sort of dosh. Realistically, I reckon that 400N is worth about £700. Actually, that seller rings a bell. I'm sure I've bought stuff from him or sold stuff to him in the past. I'm pretty sure he's a trader. The 450 was styled differently, and had quite a few engine differences too, including (as you say) a lot of torque. I owned one of these, too. I think you're muddled between the CB400 and the CB450. So he got it fixed, liked you did in those days, by taking it to a engineers and they re-ground and "metal-sprayed" it. And, it promptly did it again. I don't think I ever heard of anyone getting a crank repaired where that crank ever stood up properly. -- Champ |
