Try asking in plain text instead of some HTML formatted stuff and
perhaps more people would be able to see your question.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Tip Harris" <tiph@cox.net> saying
something like:

Carbs only float if you seal up all the holes, fill them with helium
then place them in a bath of mercury.

Was that not the factory setup on the Spagthorpe Milliner 3?

You rotter! Now you can try explaining to my wife what I was doing
in the bath with a Dellorto PHM40 and a condom.
They don't float unless you include the volume of a large air filter.

No. They tried it on the IIa[1] but the notoriously porous castings from
the Turkmenistan factory[2] were incapable of holding the helium.

Of course, this was less of a problem after the home-produced outer
castings proved so porous they were incapable of holding the mercury.

It was after this that inspiration struck and the Mk VIIm Solid
Carburettor was born. Its revolutionary design featured a one-piece cast
solid body, the fuel vapours simply percolating through the porous
casting.

It is a matter of considerable regret that a memorandum went missing
between the design and production offices, resulting in a continued
drive to solve the "problem" of the porous castings. This brought
success just in time to ensure that a batch of 25,000 Mk VIIm bodies
were produced and proved to be utterly useless.

Had this not occurred, there is little doubt that the Mk VIIm would have
proved a world-beater.

[1] Please note the correct designation old chap. We must try to
preserve standards.
[2] You'll recall the disastrous off-shoring experiment.

TMI. Really. Much TMI.
