Default Buying in the USA and shipping to Europe?

Hi all, I was thinking of buying an older offroader (Pre 1974) in the USA
and shipping back to Europe (Norway).

I am a british expat living up here now and importing an older bike is much
cheaper due to customs and excise restrictions.

Has anyone any advice, horror stories, etc regarding shipping a bike over.

The bikes there just seem less rusty, cheaper and theres more of them for
sale.

Regards Alan

1) trans atlantic shipping is not cheap (1200usd for a twenty foot
container from east coast US to UK)

2) Don't forget brokerage, VAT and Duty

3) don't forget any possible conversion to EU regulations

Hi DNC, If the bikes more than 30 years old there is no import duty or VAT
applicable here, just a one off registration fee.

But if its younger than that, the charges are astronomical.

I hoped to get the bike loaded onto an already partly filled container but
it might be more problematic than I thought.

There must be some dealers specialising in export to Europe with expertise
in form filling, customs clearance, crating etc.....well at least I hope
there is.

Thanks for your input.

The OP wants to ship to Norway, which is not part of the EU.

A colleague had a quote of 600USD to ship his V-Rod from Des Moines to
Doha.

The trouble was getting fully comp insurance when he got it here. So
he didn't bother.

...but is in the EEA, which may be relevant. Or not.
