Any particular brand?
Wandered round Halfords today but couldn't spot anything with brake cleaner specifically written on it. Only wheel cleaner. And it's for the mtb not the GSXR, but they're alloy discs and EBC HH brake pads, so not too dissimilar. My suspension fork decided to dump a load of grease on the disc and I need to remove it sharpish. -- GSXR1000 DIAABTCOD#11 BOTAFOT#75 ex-two#19 "We take these risks, not to escape from life, but to prevent life escaping from us." http://www.bensales.com |

Yup, http://www.avidbike.com/2_cpsdiskbra...1_bearing.html lightweight aluminium discs. Dunno how long they'll last but they've been on for 8 months with no appreciable signs of wear, including riding all winter in some very gritty conditions. In fact I don't think you can get a bicycle disc brake with anything other than an alloy disc. -- GSXR1000 DIAABTCOD#11 BOTAFOT#75 ex-two#19 "We take these risks, not to escape from life, but to prevent life escaping from us." http://www.bensales.com |

It was quite expensive at £5 (ish) for a single aerosol. Brake cleaner is common enough in motor factors, it may be simpler to ask. As its uses go further than brakes, in fact cleaning and rebuilding most m/c components it's invaluable. I buy it in bulk. £14 (ish) for 5 litres with a free trigger sprayer from Partco. I also get my Duck Oil and Jizer in the same quantities. -- Simon Brighton | MYSOB: http://www.sweller.co.uk/sob/ England | MZSOB: http://www.mztech.fsnet.co.uk/ |

On a related note, I know you can't use normal degreaser on brakes because it's oil based. But I have some citrus degreaser for the mountain bike. Would that be usable? -- GSXR1000 DIAABTCOD#11 BOTAFOT#75 ex-two#19 "We take these risks, not to escape from life, but to prevent life escaping from us." http://www.bensales.com |

I've got Jizer which I use for most degreasing and the citrus on for the mtb because allegedly it's better for the seals on the suspension forks. -- GSXR1000 DIAABTCOD#11 BOTAFOT#75 ex-two#19 "We take these risks, not to escape from life, but to prevent life escaping from us." http://www.bensales.com |

Duel edged question - I know you meant 'aluminuium alloy', but steel is an alloy too.
