Default Biker down but not out

Paul had an accident on his way into work this morning. On the older R1.
Damage to Paul : bruised hand, shock, but leathers (or errr, cordura's) did
their job and good gloves protected his hand from breakage. Damage to bike
: lhs fairing needs replacing, lights, light brackets, tank dented, poss for
damage and not sure about frame. Looks around £2k worh of damage.

I don't doubt he'll post or follow up with report.

ARSE. GWS to the lad, and don't be too hard on him, Jen.

How'd it happen, then?

Would I. Had he been riding my new R1 he'd be a lot worse off by now.

> How'd it happen, then?

Dog walker lots control of her rather large Komodors (very large Hungarian
dog) and a German Shepherd (she was walking 6 dogs in total out in the
fields near here) that ran into the road, car in front had slowed down but
the dogs were out of sight as Paul went to go past the car, but the dogs
decided to run out in front of the bike, he hit the car to the left rather
than the dogs in front & right.

I'm laying in bed been rather ill when I get that dreaded call that everyone
hates 'I've crashed the bike'. I think I made it out of bed, into clothes
and out to him in under 10 minutes! The police in attendance was a decent
guy who I know well (he has dogs and comes into the shop quite a bit), and
the dog walker was cautioned. And we spent a couple of hours in casualty
while they checked Paul over. Bruised hand and a shock.

So my poor baby is currently in Acklams Motorcycles looking forlorn. We get
the results tomorrow on whether its just cosmetic or the frame/forks are
bent.

Sorry to hear about this bad news, please forward GWS to Paul (and the R1).

Any idea how the claiming bit of this incident is likely to be dealt with,
i.e can the dog walker be held liable (ISTR there being cover under
household insurance for accidents caused by pets, but as I bailed out of the
insurance industry in 1987 things may have changed).

She has her own liability insurance as she's a professional dog walker.
Which makes life somewhat easier. We're off in a mo to see what the

Well its the fairing thats causing the main problems. But we've chatted
with the guys at Acklams and said we don't really want it written off, the
mileage is quite high and to be fair, its a good bike. So we need to go
back tomorrow and discuss what we're prepared to live with and what
reeeeeeaaaally needs replacing. Once again, fingers crossed. What a thing
to be doing on our wedding anniversary! Sitting in Acklams deciding the
fate of a bike.

Pauls doing well tho, hand is still bruised ans swollen and no other
injuries seem apparent so its off to buy some new gloves now. He's

I could think of worse things to be doing on a wedding anniversary (it's
mine later this month), perhaps I should take SWMBO for a day out looking at
bikes.
