Default At last a syndrome tailor made for me

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/prog...adult_qa.shtml

As my condition remains undiagnosed I consider it only right and proper
that I go off on a crime spree, it isn't my fault, I will not feel guilt
and I may be some time.

If I had been born more recently I might have claimed this one, but when I
was a child we didn't have ADHD we had the stick.

This one is almost worth having just for the fun of putting it under the
"disabilities" section on application forms.

Well, yes, but that was for the side effect rather than for any other
reason IIRC.

More likely to be for the primary effect rather than "side" effect. In many
ways Ritalin (methylphenidate) is similar to cocaine in the way that it
affects the brain. The stimulation helps the attention deficit by improving
the ability to concentrate.

That's my syndrome that is, It's taken a long time to find it and I'd
prefer it undiluted by excessive numbers.

It worked the first time. Maybe the pikey swervers are playing up again.
I am a very un-stressed person (I even read Des's posts - occasionally).

I consider my syndrome an 'added value' component of sleep rather than a
disability.

It actually describes an experience I've had a few times whilst falling
asleep. In my case it is a very short loud roaring noise. It has never
worried me so I have never bothered to pursue it. I only found out that it
has a name yesterday whilst looking looking for something else in a fairly
exhaustive list of syndromes.

I have occasionally had something similar, starting 10-15 years
ago in Switzerland, but I've not noticed it lately. Basically, some noise
wakes me up -- the doorbell, the 'phone, the alarm, etc. -- but as I'm
waking, the rational part of my brain says, "That sounds nothing like your
[doorbell|'phone|alarm|etc.]!" and I'm usually back to sleep in short order.
It does start the heart pumping but the rational response limits the aggro.

I know you look old and wore out beyond your years but I never would
have thought you were 61. Or has that black hole you are making next
month caused a time inversion that nobody will be telling us about?

Weird. It's like someone has chainsawed half your body off down the
centreline. It still functions to some extent, but you can't feel what
it's doing. At the same time your brain is only working on one side
also, which gives a very strange out of body effect.

Whilst scary, this gives me some hope. All my immediate family have died
of strokes, so I have no personal experience of a stroke being
survivable.
Given the choice though, I think I'll stick with the explosions.
