My shiny-ish new toy (it's yellow, you know) came fitted with 'em.
There doesn't seem to be much info around, and of the websites that
mentioned them, most were MX sites.

They *may* be sintered metallic/carbon/ceramic, from what little I
could find.

They have reasonable power but it takes a fair old squeeze of the
lever and they lack initial bite... friction seems to build up while
braking.
