I found the auction from your description and it did look pretty good VFM. On an unrelated note, you're a fan of "Snow Crash", aren't you? I'm about half-way through it ATM and I just can't get involved in it. As a rule I never get on with the cyberpunk genre and given how crap the ending to "Cryptonomicon" was I'm a bit apprehensive that I'm going to plough through this book just for them to, metaphorically, blow the side off the mountain and take the gold. The Sumerian religion stuff is fairly interesting, but it's just not enough to keep me turning the pages. Is it worth sticking with? Can you promise me a non-crap ending? -- AndrewR, D.Bot (Celeritas) Kawasaki ZX-6R J1 BOTAFOT#2,ITJWTFO#6,UKRMRM#1/13a,MCT#1,DFV#2,SKoGA#0 (and KotL) BotToS#5,SBS#25,IbW#34, TEAR#3 (and KotL), DS#5, Keeper of the TFSTR# The speccy Geordie twat. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

The first half of all of Stephenson's books (that I've read) have been great; fantastic ideas, interesting plots and the occasional bad joke. But then suddenly this huge societal upheaval happens for some reason, and then the book ends, with a feeling of "is that it?" >> TBH though, William Gibson did Cyberpunk far better than Stephenson, >> and have dated a lot less, IMO. > >No, no, no - I don't get on with cyberpunk and I _really_ don't get on >with Gibson. Ah, well, you're missing out. Reading Stephenson and Gibson side by side (or even, more sensibly!, one after the other), Stephenson just looks like a wallowing hippo in comparison to Gibson's liquid nitrogen cooled glass dagger. |
