got a text from Bruce this morning to say that they'd done the op on
his back today [1,2] and that all was good.

"Just been up for a little walk. Still painful but OK once standing.

Doesn't seem to have done, no. There will, of course, be some
soft-tissue damage due to the the 10" long cut, but as it's directly
on the spine it's not too deep. And they said there were no problems
getting the screws freed up from the bone so all that should be OK
too.

Although there's clearly a higher level of pain right now, I'm fairly
sure I can already feel the lack of the metalwork, although that may
be my imagination, of course.

Superb, my docs said that was the major worry when removing any
metalwork, but its got to be done.

My bet is that that'll quickly die down to less that it was before.
