Back on the 17th I posted about my bike being backed into by a 4x4. I
knew that it wouldn't be as simple as replacing a can and bar end so I let Carole Nash's lot take it away for exploratory surgery. The assessors call this morning was to see how much they could leave off the bill to stop it being listed as a write off. At the moment, by straightening rather than replacing the exhaust headers, the bill is in the reigon of £2,600. HOW MUCH? Damage seems to be: Exhaust can and link pipe[1] Crash Bung All RH pegs and hangers[3] Carbon bar end Brake lever Indicator Both mirrors Repaint fairing cowl and right lower Oil [2] Labour Other odd scratched and marked parts were discussed and dropped off the list as being hidden or having old marks. The annoying thing is that it's being taken care of by *my* fully comp cover at the moment and I'll have to fork out £500 excess to get it back. CN's solicitors are licking their lips in the backround I'm told to get it all back from the other party. To think that I could have gone for a higher excess IIRC. Shiver. [1] Which has the exhaust valve so this includes setting this up properly. [2] No, I don't know why either. It didn't leak and was only changed 500 miles ago. [3] (Yes, it's in the wrong order). Cast items so they may have hidden fractures. Replace. |

Get a full payout, offer them sod all for the wreck and fix it yourself. Which is what my daughter did with her car after it was carparked, the only argument we had was persuading the insurance to make it CAT C and not a B. -- Ian |

That's very similar to the estimate for Elly's CBR, following the blind bint in Bedford knocking it over when parked, then pushing it 20' up the road. Having said that, Elly's bill included a new top and side fairing and tailpiece, as well as can and link pipe (which are one piece on the CBR). I'd imagine the damage to be similar too, so the price doesn't surprise me, although the repainting of panels, rather than replacing, does. I'd encourage the InsCo to write it off as a CatD myself, then stash the cheque and continue riding a slightly scuffed bike with minimal repairs. -- Pip: B12 |

It's not being written off, I'm getting them to fix it up. I love the bike and don't see why I should lose it because of this. I can see where you're coming from though. |

Your ins. co. called you so that they could make the claim less so they didn't write it off, so it's only being partially fixed. -- -- Nick ICQ: 9235201 EMAIL & MSN: nickmooney@spamcop.net -- LOTR#4 SKOGA#8 DS#7 BOTAFOT#159 BOTM#2 FBOTY#06 PM#11 -- GSF600n www.bgn.me.uk - Drive until you lose the road |

Mike, I have a spare fairing panel for the right side in the correct blue white K1 colours, it's nigh on immaculate[1]. 50 quid to you, Sir. [1] It was originally on the bike when I bought it from Hog but had a couple of tiny almost indiscernible marks on it[2], so I replaced it with an immaculate one cos I'm a bit of a tart like that. [2] You have to look very close to see them. -- Lozzo .. |

Heh, you're determined to get rid of it to me aren't ya? Sorry, but CN are sorting it and it won't need the panel. Thanks anyway. |

The only thing not being done is replacing the exhaust headers which are only a couple of mm out and easily (they say) fixed. Cost of titanium headers anyone? Dunno myself. I could ask for new headers, then just lose the bike. Don't want that. |
