Re: Am I expecting to much

Hi Jerry,

When I talked to you on the phone to order to machine
for daughter's new pup, I told you that I had an older
Chessie. I rescued him at 9 years old and have had him
for 3 years.

It's funny, but I thought I'd try some of
your book training with him.

Where I used to say "come" and then say "good boy"
when he obeyed, I have reversed it with a "good boy" first.
It really does work. He was very confused at first,
wondering what he had done to get the praise.

But it really gets the attention and distracts him from
whatever he may have going through his brain when
he hears it.

Dogs are funny, but people are too.

Can't wait to get the Doggy do Right, etc.

Thanks,
N

Nice to hear from you today.

Right. Only takes a couple repetitions to
install the come or ANY command as
a conditional reflex.

100% TOTAL NON PHYSICAL CON-TROLL
withHOWET fear force intimidation or bribery,
in just a few minutes of EZ GENTLY NON
PHYSICAL CONditioning and PRAISE, of curse.

Good.

Not a problem. We all make the same mistakes.
Just follow the method and the mistakes won't count.

> he prefers to either chew grass or find a stick to
> nibble on and pay absolutely no attention to me

No problem. We'll fix that nearly instantly.

> I've tried coaxing and begging but nothing,

Right. Review the FPLX and make sure you've
got the come command pupperly installed and
try again.

> I don't know if its okay to make another

You can repeat the technique several times
quickly in succession if it doesn't work initially,
THAT'S conditioning.

IN FACT, we NEED the dog not to react when
called in order to INSTALL the conditioning.

> or wether that goes against the whole point.

What we need to do is condition the come
command first and then generalize it according
to the method and THEN address the problem
behavior using all of the techniques and principles.

> On the occasions that he has "come" its taken
> about 3 to 4 minutes of begging, then i don't know
> wether he's forgotten the original command, Help.

S-HOWENDS like you haven't got the come
command installed pupperly. Work on that
first in the context of the Family Leadership
Exercise. Timing tone and tempo are generally
the culprit when we have a problem with the
come command.

When it fails, walk off as in the Family Pack
Leadership Exercise and he'll have no choice
but to follow you. Then go back to address
the problem.

ANY behavior that's PREDICTABLE REPEATABLE
or CONSISTENT is EZ to EXXXTINGUISH NEARLY
INSTANTLY, if you follow the method PRECISELY.

You're welcome. Thank you for being
a dedicated student. I'll copy a post
below covering the same problem.

Perhaps you'll mention this to the news groups?
They could use a little encouragement to do the
right things for their dogs, despite that it goes
against their grain. <{) ; ~ ) >
