Default Help stop Pet Markets being legalised

From Dog pages forum:-

Under the new Animal Welfare Bill, announced on 14th July 2004, the
government is planning to legalise all sales in pet animals, including
itinerant trading such as markets and fairs.

This would be a major step backward for animal welfare in Britain,
leading to a dramatic increase in one-day sales of birds, reptiles and
fish.

These animals spend their lives crammed into tiny cages and boxes
being transported around the country.

As many birds and reptiles in the pet trade are wild-caught, this
change in the law will have a devastating impact on wild populations.

More exotic animals in private homes will undoubtedly lead to more
cruelty or neglect cases as their complex needs can not be met in a
captive environment.

The Bill is now being scrutinised by a sub-committee which will
recommend changes based on submissions theyıve received during the
consultation period.

If any of these sub-committee members are your MP, please help us
persuade them to drop the legalisation of pet fairs from the Bill.

You can write, email, fax or ring them. Better still; make an
appointment to meet them at a surgery or in their office.

For background information on the Bill and the welfare implications of
legalising pet fairs, see here:

If you bother to read the draft bill you will see your post is idiotic
dribble. It is written by animal rights fanatics who know nothing about
animal welfare.

Pet Shows and Sales (not markets) are legal in the UK. Selling pets at an
outdoor market is illegal and has been for years. This law is not being
changed and nobody is trying to change it so pets and animals can be sold at
markets. Before you jump on a band wagon look into both sides of a story not
just animal rights propoganda. I thought you were an animal lover Alison,
not an animal rights fanatic, who are intent on stopping the keeping of ALL
animals not just exotics.
