Hi Everyone,
Has anybody got any good recommendation of where to get hold of Frontline flea-treatment for cats but CHEAPLY? (I found a site in the USA which sells a 500ml pump bottle - exactly the same stuff as in the UK - but for just £24! However, it is illegal to bring it into this country as it has not been approved by the Veterinary Medicines Directory.) Somebody suggested it is a bit cheaper in France, but I don't go there often. Thanks. Nell. |

And not just banned from sale in the UK, as in unlicensed If its illegal to *bring in* then surely sourcing in France is pointless, as surely it still can't come into the UK. You must mean that its just not licensed for sale in the UK, in which case I'd say it is fine for you to order it from the US I'm in Ireland, and a few of the liquid wormers I like to use for puppies are not licensed for sale in Ireland...but its not illegal to buy them in the UK and have them posted to me in Ireland, or brought in for me. |

Firstly, I discussed the matter with a very helpful and knowledgeable vet in another part of the UK (so he has nothing to benefit from my not buying his supplies). He advised that the Frontline brand is a "P.O.M", a "Prescription-Only Medicine" in the UK. That means that to obtain it and use it in the UK without a prescription from a vet and without presenting that prescription to an approved veterinary practitioner in the UK is illegal. I checked this out. I rang UK "Customs and Excise". They put me in touch with the division concerned with veterinary medicines. Then that division warned that to buy and use a POM from outside the UK could, if detected by Customs, lead to a fine and a conviction. I suppose that buying it yourself in France or Belgium, where it is apparently a LITTLE cheaper, and bringing it back into the UK is similarly illegal. Maybe Frontline is not a "POM" in Ireland? I don't know. Nell. |
